With the number of domestic and overseas tourists increased by a million, Jeju tourism is thriving for two consecutive years.
According to the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, 7.25 million people visited Jeju so far in 2010, and the number is expected to be 7.5 million by the end of the year. This is a big increase from last year’s record of 6.52 million. The number of domestic tourists (6.5 million) and overseas tourists (750,000) shows that both demographics are increasing at the same time. The increase in Jeju tourism is said to be due to attractions such as Olle trails, World Natural Heritage Sites, leisure tours including golf and climbing, and increase in domestic and international conferences and school trips.
Average occupancy rates of hotels surveyed turned out to be 90 percent this year, breaking the record of 80 percent last year.
The number of hired rental cars and chartered buses is also reported to have increased since last year. The number of golf tourists as of last month was 880,000, a slight decrease from the previous year, though there was a spike in October.
