On Dec. 10 the Jeju Provincial Police Agency announced a plan for regional security operations on Jeju Olle trails.
Police have recently established 55 patrol routes on 22 Olle trails, which will be under the jurisdiction of district police stations.
In addition, police decided to appoint willing villagers as Olle trail custodians to help ensure the safety of hikers. The police and the custodians will carry out joint patrols at times when trails are most crowded with travelers.
The police have also set up a page called Secure Olle Trail on their Web site, which aims to promote safety regulations to prevent accidents.
Lieutenant Hyun Moon Sung of the Jeju Provincial Police Agency emphasized that the police will develop Jeju Olle security activities in conjunction with Jeju citizens.
