The Busan•Ulsan•Kyungnam Pan-Regional Promotion Committee for Jeju’s Selection as one of the New7Wonders of Nature was launched on March 4 and started campaign activities.
The committee held its founding ceremony at Busan Lotte Hotel. In attendance were Jung Un Chan, chairman of Jeju-New7Wonders Pan-National Promotion Committee; Woo Geun Min, governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province; Moon Dae Rim, chairperson of Jeju Provincial Council; Park Hong Dae, president of Busan Regional Court; Yang Won Chan, secretary general of the Pan-National Promotion Committee; and Kim Jong Ryul, president of Busan Daily Report. Other Busan•Ulsan• Kyungnam press representatives participated in the ceremony. The Busan•Ulsan•Kyungnam Pan-Regional Committee, which consists of local leaders who love Jeju, is a non-governmental committee that will start voluntary campaigns to help Jeju Island to be selected as one of the New7Wonders of Nature.
“The significance of today’s ceremony is to expand the pan-national participation that will help Jeju, a treasure island of Korea, receive the most votes at the New7Wonders of Nature poll,” said Kim In Sae, the co-chairman of Busan• Ulsan•Kyungnam Pan-Regional Promotion Committee.
“Jeju Island has won the UNESCO ‘triple crown’ for its nature ... All of these accomplishments prove that Jeju Island is worthy to become the world’s environmental capital. If selected as one of the New7Wonders of Nature, Jeju will do its best as a leading world environment city,” Governor Woo said.
Meanwhile, Jeju Island and the Pan-National Promotion Committee will carry out field investigations in nine places including Mt. Halla and Seongsan Sunrise Peak. Domestic and foreign journalists and the members of the Busan• Ulsan•Kyungnam Pan-Regional Promotion Committee will be invited to Jeju Island.
