The construction of the International Convention Center (ICC) JEJU's Anchor Hotel, which came to a halt more than a year ago, resumed in earnest on April 5 at a ceremony attended by many local dignitaries and business leaders, including Kim Sang In, vice-president of the Jeju administrative body, Shin Gwan Hong, chairperson of the Department of Culture and Tourism in the provincial assembly, and others.

Resuming construction was made possible by the establishment of a corporate body that the Jeju Tourist Service, ICC JEJU, and private entrepreneurs joined.

The construction of the hotel is expected to be finished before the World Conservation Congress, which is to be held in September 2012.

However, the task will be tough. The company in charge of the construction of the hotel has not been decided yet. The ICC is going to select either Geumho construction company, which was originally in charge, or Samsung construction company.

Not only are technical skills to finish the construction in a short time important, but also dealing with accounts payable to the original construction company is important in selecting the new company to be in charge. Moreover, changing subcontract companies would probably cause lawsuits if the original company resists.

“We resumed construction by establishing a new corporate body after making the decision that only after the Anchor Hotel is completed can a synergistic effect with ICC JEJU be maximized,” said an official from the Jeju provincial government.

The Anchor Hotel, which has the gross area of 82,393-meter-square will have nine floors above ground and two underground. The hotel is designed with 282 rooms and 186 suites.
