Famous figures, most recently mountaineer Eom Hong Kil and entertainer Park Sang Won, are playing active roles as honorary Jeju ambassadors to promote the island’s New7 Wonders of Nature campaign. It is expected that their roles will greatly increase voter turnout.

The “Koreana Jones,” an outdoor variety television show by MBC Dramanet, featuring celebrities like Eom Hong Kil, Park Sang Won, singer Kim Hyun Jung, comedian Lee Jae Hyung, and music group Cultwo, produced and filmed a special television segment on Jeju, March 29 and 30. The personalities, who were appointed honorary ambassadors of Jeju, encouraged voting by visiting several tourist locations and schools.

The publicity activities, which target visitors and students on school trips to Jeju, began at the Jeju International Airport and continue to several main tourism spots.

The highlight of the schedule was a visit to Ohyun High School.

Students at the school were practicing New7Wonders cheer routines (including the use of flip-book cards) for the approaching 41st White Tigers Soccer Cup, which is a Jeju traditional all-boys high school event.

“We were impressed by the cheering routines performed by Ohyun High School students and by the Jeju people’s passion. We are sure that Jeju will be selected as a New7Wonders of Nature,” said a member of the film crew. “We will try our best to make Jeju selected as a New7Wonder.”

Jeju Governor Woo Keun Min visited Ohyun High School that day and gave appointment letters of New7Wonder honorary ambassadorship to eight cast members of Koreana Jones.

The feature program of Koreana Jones in Jeju will be broadcast on MBC Dramanet and MBC.
