Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced on May 15 that Jeju will host the 15th Inter-Island Tourism Policy (ITOP) Forum from Sept. 28 to 30. This will be Jeju’s fourth time hosting this forum since its inception in 1997. Jeju held the 5th ITOP Forum in 2001 and the 10th in 2006.
In 1997, Jeju, in conjunction with Okinawa, Japan, Hainan Island, China, and Bali, Indonesia established the forum to create cooperation between islands that have similar a environment to share best practices concerning tourism development. Currently, there are 12 nation members.
During the 15th ITOP Forum there will be a convention on growth, a symposium, and the establishment of image development of ITOP member nations. The government is considering MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) industry, tourism development, and the future of island tourism given the impact of climate change, as forum topics.
