Jeju Special Self-Governing Province will begin using a new address system from July 29 that identifies buildings with street names and numbered addresses.
According to an announcement by provincial officials on June 19, it will make “additional public notifications for the confirmation of the street name addresses” of 8,700 people who have yet to acknowledge changes to their addresses. So far, the province has served notices to 369,600 building owners and occupants at least twice.
The province completed the designation of 118,570 building number signs on 3,819 streets and structures, and 6,761 signs for major streets.
Seven official administrative documents will begin using the new address system: residence registrations, building registrations, certified copies of the register, the family register, business licenses, alien registration, and corporate registrations.
Both the old and new systems will be in use until the end of the year, and from Jan. 1, 2012, only the new address system will be available according to the Street Name Address Act, though the National Assembly is reviewing the transition timetable and may extend this until the end of 2013. In that case, the sole use of the new address system would come into effect from Jan. 1, 2014.
