The idea behind a special “Jeju in Color” issue was basically to crowdsource talent and technology. Since The Weekly publishes on exceptionally high-quality paper and in color, we felt this photography special would do justice to both Jeju’s beauty and our own contributors’ talents.

In the last few years camera technology has improved and prices have dropped to such an extent that many amateur and semi-pro photographers have been able to hone their skills and styles in interesting ways.

We gave people two months to submit their work in a number of different categories. I am happy to report that our initial objectives were fully realised. There was a remarkable amount of interest and in the end the work of 13 contributors was selected for the following seven pages.

Please go to Facebook.com/JejuWeekly and vote for your favorite image in this special. Note that there are many more photos that we could not include in print. The top two images with the most “likes” will win prizes.

Voting closes Oct. 1.

Here are our contributors:

Andrew Elwood lives and works in Seogwipo City. Before coming to Korea he was a musician for the Celebrity Cruise line. He writes and performs music around Seogwipo as well as hiking, diving and hanging out with friends. He shoots with a Nikon D70 and a Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G lens. Susan Shain is an elementary school English teacher who loves travel, photography, Michigan football, and the outdoors.

Heather Marie Krogsgard, from South Louisiana, was a former resident of Shin-Jeju and is currently in Kyoto, Japan. She shoots with an Olympus E-500 and alternatively a Canon G7. Check out flickr.com/featherlion for more of her work.

Chris Dwyer is a multi-disciplinary artist from Fogo, Newfoundland in Canada. He loves Halloween, slowed-down carnival music, and rolling down hills. He currently lives in Jeju City, and shoots with a Nikon F3 and a Nikon D7000. His website can be found at chrisdwyer.ca

Lizzie Smith is a 14-year-old from Baltimore. She visited Jeju on a family trip last August.

Britt Neufer is a content creator from Gig Harbor, Washington, in the good ol' US of A. She likes free wireless, Modern Family, and college football. She will soon be leaving her current residence of Gu-Jeju, to enjoy and explore Kiwi territory. She shoots with anything that will capture an image. Right now that is the Canon 60D. Her latest creative ventures can be found at http://tarzanchild.tumblr.com/.

Matthew Halstead, from Bury, England, is a teacher at the Shin Jeju Foreign Language Education Center. He has lived on Jeju since June, 2009. He shoots with a Sony Alpha A55V.
June Kim is a Korean-American amateur photographer based in Seoul. She fell in love with photography ever since she met her Olympus PL-1 micro 3/4 camera.

Nadia Notarpippo, from Manchester, England, lives in Shin-Jeju. She has lived in Korea for over a year and when her contract ends next January she will head straight to China and then southeast Asia where her Nikon D5000 will probably never leave her side. For more of her work, go to www.flickr.com/photos/npippo/.

Maggie Sim is a Singaporean who hopes to spend more time exploring the beauty of Jeju in future. She uses a Nikon D90.

Merlin Arbor is an American woman teaching English in Gumi (Gyeongbukdo province) for almost a year. She used a Lumix 25mm wide-angle digital camera.
