Under theme of “Hope - Trust - Blessing,” The 4th Sanjicheon Lantern Festival will light up Sanjicheon area, Jeju City, from Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. to Nov. 10 with over 3,000 traditional lanterns.

Sponsored by Jeju City and hosted by Jeju Ildo 2-dong Community Center, the festival longs for Jeju to become one of the New7Wonders of Nature. With New7Wonders in mind, the committee plans to display traditional lanterns, made out of paper, with the theme of nature like flowers, insects, and animals.

The festival will start off with the opening ceremony on Nov. 5, which will include dance performances, the lantern lighting ceremony and more.

For six days, there will be performances starting at 7 p.m. at Sanjicheon Square. Also, following the performances every night, there will be singing contest for visitors where prizes will be awarded.

This year the committee is providing more opportunities for visitors to participate in the festival like through decorating cookies, making organic cosmetics, and face painting. From Nov. 7 to Nov. 9, at 5 p.m. visitors can design their own lanterns.

During the festival period, there will be wish papers available for festival goers to fill out. On the last day, all wish papers will be burnt in a traditional ritual.

Through this festival, the committee hopes to bring the community together and stimulate the local economy.
