Despite cold and windy weather, about 5,000 runners competed in the 2011 Jeju Mandarin International Marathon Race on Nov. 20, which started at 9:30 a.m.

The race, hosted by Halla Ilbo and the Jeju Mandarin Association, was held to promote the mandarin industry and encourage healthy living.

There were four different divisions: a full marathon, a half marathon, a 10 km race, and 5 km race.

Baek Jeong Yeol (44, Gumi City Hall, Gyeongbuk Province) was the first one to cross the full-marathon finish line with a personal best of 2:40:32, followed by Hong Seung Ho 35 seconds later.

Baek Young In, who won the half marathon with record of 1:18:06, has taken home the first placing four years in a row.

“I want to thank all the volunteers, police, and firemen who had worked hard to make this race run smoothly,” Halla Ilbo CEO Kang Man Saeng announced.
