The Election Assistance Commission (EAC) for Jeju Special Self-Governing Province has issued a report that 2,434 out-of-country voters have signed up for the upcoming April 11 General Election.
The registration process was open from Nov. 13, 2011, to Feb. 11 of this year at 158 diplomatic and municipal offices established overseas and accounts for 1.9 percent of 125,000 Jeju citizens who are currently not residing on the island.
The EMC will compare this number to the official list of registered voters on March 12.
Those who are confirmed on this date are eligible to vote for the election between March 28 and April 2 at polling stations in 158 offices worldwide. This is the first General Election in which Korean citizens living overseas will be able to cast their votes. (Translated by Song Hannim)
