In head to head matchups, Jeju United has dominated Daegu FC for the last two years. On April 7, the Orange extended this winning streak blanking Daegu 2-0 for their second straight shutout. This puts United first in the K-League, overtaking Suwon, on goal differential with 13 points.

The game winner came at the 64th minute from Robert who now has a two game scoring streak after going empty since the season opener. Jair netted the insurance at 86 on a one-on-one with the keeper.

The Orange jumped right to it out of the gate with the first shot on net within the first two minutes of play.

The first half displayed good performances by both teams to no result. Jeju pushed for the first 45 but couldn’t budge Daegu’s backline. The play from both sides of the pitch was tight allowing few holes in their lines for scoring opportunities.

The game was scoreless at the half and based on both of the teams’ play, that might have been the possible final score.

The second half started off slower with Jeju playing defensive and Daegu coming on strong forcing United captain and keeper Han Dong Jin to come up with some big saves to keep his team from having to play from behind. In between the 50th and 60th minute, Jeju started to turn on the pressure against the Daegu defense. The plying led to a goal by Robert in the 64th minute. He scored off a header that soared past Daegu keeper Park Jun Hyuk to give the Orange a one goal lead.

During the final minutes of the game, Jeju striker Jair broke away from a Daegu defender for a breakaway on Park. Jair undressed Park to lay in an easy goal giving the Orange a commanding 2-0 lead with five minutes to go in the game. The crowd of 5,036 roared.

The highlight of the game was Jeju’s defense which has improved game after game. Since the injury to Madaschi, defense has stepped up in his absence and recorded their second straight shutout. This win along with the Suwon Bluewings earning a draw against Chunnam Dragons on the same day has earned Jeju United first place in the K-League.

The Orange’s next game is on April 11 — the day of the Korean General Election — at 3 p.m. home to Ulsan who currently sit fourth with 10 points.
