The Suwon Bluewings take first in the K-League defeating the Pohang Steelers 2-0, while Jeju United gain a point but drop to second in a tie with Ulsan Hyundai.

The weather was perfect for football in Seogwipo City, but the Orange couldn’t pull out a win against Ulsan in a very technical game on April 11, at Jeju World Cup Stadium.

Going into the game with 13 points each, Jeju sat first and Ulsan fourth based on a two goal differential in the Orange’s favor.

During the first half, Jeju dominated in ball possession with Ulsan plying pressure hoping to capitalize on United making a mistake.

Jeju passed the ball well during the first 45 while Ulsan played a clinical game jumping on the chances they got. If it wasn’t for Jeju keeper Han Dong Jin making a couple big saves during the first half, the Orange would have been going into the last 45 at a deficit.

While the first half was a rather slow, technical game, the second half picked up in tempo, while tempers flared, and mistakes were made but to no end.

It looked like Jeju scored the first and only goal of the game at 47 minutes with a strong strike from the right side but was quickly disqualified as offside.

Uslan came back fast, and on the next rush Go Seoul Ki got a good hit off to an open net, but Han came up big with a diving save.

The game went back and forth and was a game of rushes with the keepers keeping their teams’ sheet clean. Sanotos Jr., Jair, and Robert all had chances for Jeju to put the game away but were unable to seal the deal.

In the closing minutes, United were pressing and as the dominant squad throughout most of the game, a goal seemed close at hand. But as the clock ticked off the game ended in a scoreless tie.

Jeju’s Adrian Madaschi was out for a fourth straight game due to injury.

Jeju United take on seventh place Pohang Steelers away at 3 p.m. on April 14.
