The Korean Organizing Committee (KOC) for 2012 IUCN World Conservation Congress will support one-day registration fees for the general public who want to participate in the Congress, to be held in Jeju from Sept. 6 to 15.

The KOC is planning to provide a total of 1,000 applicants with free one-day pass (equivalent to 60,000 won) for up to two days.

The public can attend at no cost forum events for up to two days from Sept. 7 to 11. And they can take part in various programs, including "World Leaders' Dialogues" where high profile figures will suggest a vision for future environment with the interaction of the public.

Registration is open until Aug. 12 to anybody who is interested in nature conservation and environmental challenges .

"I hope that the support of registration fees will help Korean nationals and foreigners resident in Korea, who have an interest in environmental issues and green lifestyle, have a chance to exchange knowledge with global environmental experts at the world's largest environmental event,” said Dr. Lee Hong-koo, Chairman of the KOC. “And this Congress will hold a variety of events for the public, such as cultural events, experiences and performances, as it is a global environmental festival combined with ecosystem and culture."

Around the International Convention Center Jeju (ICCJ), the venue for the Congress, there will be an organic Korean food festival as well as various cultural events to experience traditional Korean food, culture, and folk games. In addition, a variety of attractions, such as environmental movies and cultural performances, will be prepared all around Jeju for congress participants and visitors.

The IUCN World Conservation Congress is the world's largest environmental event held every four years by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to discuss various issues, including conservation of biodiversity, response to climate change, and nature conservation. The Congress will be attended by government agencies, NGOs, environmental experts, and businessmen from 180 countries.

Registrations can be made online at application.2012wcc.or.kr.
