The South Korean Park Forests Division has issued a nationwide forest fire warning until Dec. 15.

Starting on Nov. 1, it is illegal to smoke, hold candlelight vigils, set off fireworks, or start campfires within or near forested areas.

According to Jeju City’s Park Forests Division, forests are particularly susceptible to fires during autumn due to the accumulation of dry leaves, twigs, and grass on the ground. Also, autumn is a rather humid season, which creates a dry atmosphere, and when combined with strong winds, the possibility of forest fires greatly increases.
