Jeju’s Traditional Market five day: a Trace of the Old Days

In the Korea there are many traditional markets, but the Jeju five day market still has a trace of old days . The Jeju five day market is one of the famous traditional market in Korea. In the five day market, even though there are vast crowds of people, there is still an intamate atmoshpere.

Shopper named Park Sang hyun said, “I usually come here to buy daily necessities and buy some food. Also, my kids like to come here.” And he comes to five day market instead of super store because he can feel familiarity . He expressed that the Jeju five day Market is starting point of Jeju culture.


Lee Jung ja, a merchant with 10 years’s experience, grows vegetables and sells them directly in the market. She said, “Many people came here to buy some vegetable but many people sell vegetables so most of merchant can’t earn much money.”


Shopper named Wan Jin and her husband said ”We come here to buy some vegetable and baby stock.” They come to five day market instead of supermarket because of fresh vegetable and the discounted prices. Old ladies selling their vegetables are interesting, and her husband expressed that the five day market is unique.


Lisa and Theresa, an expatirate Shopper, teaches in K.I.S and delight lady. Lisa said “I come here to buy some fish food for my pet and to see many things in here. Theresa said “Wood, plants, clothes and just something valuable in here.” Both of them said they come five day market instead of super store because food and vegetables are fresh and cheaper. And five day market is more variety and personal than super store. But disadvantage of five day market is hard to find.


Many people come to five day market but many people can’t find what they want easily because of narrow winding pathways. Goverment should provide more aid to the five day markets .
