If you are looking for a market to buy some food for dinner, here is the best place to come over and buy fresh stuff; the jeju city traditional 5-day market. The market which is located in Dodu-dong, Jeju city has a very long history. The market has been held on the 2nd, 7th, 12th, 17th, 22nd and 27th of each month since 1905.
From the mouth of the market, familiar smells flow into noses and voices of people haggling make visitors feel homesick. In addition, traditional foods and old antiques remind people of older times. At the market, time seems to stop.
Besides the tradition and the scent of hometown, the jeju city traditional 5-day market has amenities and facilities for visitors such as a concert hall, creche and playground for kids. There were a lot of children playing in the playground while their parents were shopping. Also, some kids were holding their mothers’ hands were watching puppies and rabbits with hearts full of excitement. A shopper with a baby, Yu Sumin, 26, said “This market is so exciting for both I and my baby. I usually visit here for showing my baby interesting views.”
Above all, the biggest attraction of the market is the price. The price in the market is never fixed because buyers and sellers usually haggle for an appropriate price. Moreover, some sellers with warm hearts give buyers as much as possible, so after shopping in the market, the customers go back home with plastic bags full of affection.
However, the market seemed to have something to change and improve. The biggest thing of all was riding motocycles along the path. It is so dangerous to ride motocycles along the path crowded with so many people and it’s also troublesome to avoid motocycles for walkers. Many people in the market hoped that riding motocycles along the path should be banned for the safety.
The Jeju city traditional 5-day market is a place with a long history, scent of home, good facilities and cheap prices. Why don’t you come to this market full of warm affection instead of complaining to big supermarkets about their unkindness?
