BHA, Branksome Hall Asia, is one of the 3 international schools (NLCS Jeju,KIS Jeju) located in Jeju Global Education City, in Jeju. Founded in 2012, the school educates approximately 550 girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12(Korean age 5 to 17). The school has a capacity of up to 1200 students at the Jeju campus alone. According to the the principal of BHA, Glen Radoikovich, there are more international students than any other international schools in Jeju : Currently 56 international students are attenting in the school; mostly from China, but some from Russia, Singapore, Japan, America. Some of these students are children of the faculty.

The day the JDC journalists visited BHA was very cool typical autumn day in Jeju with a clear and bright sky. The clean and new campus was so impressive that the visitors on their bus were surprised with the mordern architeture.

If you have a chance to visit the campuses of all three different schools in Jeju Global Education City, by looking at the buildings at BHA you would easily tell that BHA has deeply concerned on its foundation plan as a long term development project in Jeju. For example, there were some structures shapes like basalt in the library of BHA, which at there the students can read books. The buildings of BHA shows the special features of Jeju like seas, basalt and the curve of the sea. Again, the unique and spectacular buildings seem to have its own mater plan developing as a leading international school in Asia located in Jeju. Such impression and uniqueness can hardly be noticiable at any other schools in that location.

Besides its structure, the school emphasizes followings:

First, It's an elite private all girls' school. So, students of BHA students can easily communicate with one another and they can feel their own freedom to do activities provided by the shcool and on their own; such as ice skating at their own ice link, participating in the orchestra, playing baseball, going to a halloween festival, etc. Second, BHA offers a curriculum called the IB (International baccalaureate) Program from Kindergarten to Senior School. It is similiar to Korea’s entrance exam, but unlike Korean students, students ages 18 or 19 can take at most 6 subjects. Specifically, there are three programs designed for each stage of development; PYP(Primary Years Program for aged from 3 to 12), MYP(Middle Years Program for aged 11 to 16 ) and DP(Diploma Program for aged 16 to 19).

The program offers many advantages for the students of BHA. The studies have shown that those studying IB have increased opportunities for scholarships and increased acceptance rates at universities. (You can find some researches in this website_http://www.ibo.org/research/policy/)

The principal of BHA, Glen Radoikovich said, “The Motto of the school is ‘Be remarkable”. He also emphasized leadership by saying, “Compared to the other international schools in Jeju, BHA is a little different. The school in Canada was ranked as the number 1 boarding school in the world last year.“

Jeju must be proud of having such school and thus should keep the school in good shape as a good partner for the long term development of Jeju as a global site in East asia.
