2nd Organ Donation Day Campaign
Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014
Student Hall ("Hakseang Hoegwan"), Jeju National University
Sponsored by Korean Organ Donor Program
Supported by Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and Korean Broadcasting System (KBS)
A special organ donation campaign will visit Jeju National University on Sept. 11 to increase the number of organ donors on the island.
With international organ donor rates considered, Korea performs poorly at under 5 percent (other OECD nations with the UK at 30 percent and Spain highest on 85 percent) and campaigners are trying to increase awareness of the need for donors among the younger generation. This is particularly urgent as donor waiting lists have been rapidly increasing in recent years, rising from just over 5,000 in 2000, to 23,000 in mid-2014.
Everyone is welcome to the event and to sign up as an organ donor or just to learn some more.
Campaign objectives
1. To remind people of the value of organ donation through awareness raising among people in their 20s;
2. To campaign for the sharing of joy and the importance of a healthy life;
3. To provide a place where donors and beneficiaries can meet;
4. To share the joy of volunteering and realize the value of sharing life by organ donation.
