The Wetland Management Policy Capacity Building Workshop is held every year and targets wetland management officials from central government and the provinces.
This year 100 such officials received capacity-building training to Nov. 20 and 21 at Dongbaekdongsan, Jocheon-eup, to protect wetland ecosystems, promote ecotourism and learned from wetland management best practice.
There was a special introduction by Go Je-ryang, director of the Jeju Ecotourism Association who talked about Seonheul 1-ri’s designation as a “Ramsar Village” and the ecotourism projects being developed there.
Ramsar wetland sites are designated to promote wise use of endangered wetland habitats. There are 18 nationwide and four on Jeju: Mulyeongari Oreum, 1100-goji Wetland, Muljangori Oreum, and Dongbaekdongsan.
A Jeju official said the workshop allows Jeju to disperse its wetland management best practice and also promotes Jeju wetlands to increase visitors.
