Jeju Special Self-Governing Province is targeting healthy woodland management and welfare service expansion with 57.2 billion won for 39 projects in five areas, a 20 percent increase on last year.
The main projects benefiting from 4 billion support include:
Raising Jeju forest’s climate-change resistance;
Reforest pine-wilt damaged land with 145 ha of fruit and special purpose trees;
1760 ha afforestation.
To support forestry industries a further 4.7 billion won will go toward financial support for standard shipping of forest products, a foundation for the production of Mt. Hallasan shiitake mushroom product and a wood culture experience center.
Another area benefiting this year is forest disease and pest prevention, up from 6.2 billion won last year to 24.6 billion this year. Another 34.6 billion won will go toward six projects including fire and erosion prevention and disaster response.
From this year recreational forests will be obliged to be insured to cover compensation for injury or loss of life, or property damage caused by poor safety.
A further 15 projects worth 12.8 billion won in total are planned including various recreational forest projects, a nine hectare urban forest, the creation of a healing forest and support for healthy lifestyles through forest leisure, education and culture activities. There will also be a 1.5 billion won job-creation scheme for vulnerable adults. |
