Jeju has begun exporting tangerines to the United Kingdom. A research organization run by Jeju National University said 20 tons of this year’s citrus harvest would be shipped there.

Under the auspices of the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the organization has developed export strategies for the U.K. market since 2008 by examining quality and food safety requirements and consulting with local companies.

As a result, a 100 kilogram sample was sent to British fruit importer FESA, and a good response meant the first shipment headed to the United Kingdom on Dec. 22.
