News Brief

In its 2010 draft budget passed by the National Assembly on Dec. 31, the central government added an additional 21.8 billion won in earmarks for projects on Jeju Island. The total addition of almost 2 billion won includes 4 billion won for the second phase of construction of Aewol Port, which had been passed over in the government’s previous financial plan. The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province reported that nine separate projects were included in the extra funding, including 1 billion won for the Jeju April 3rd Peace Foundation. New projects include 1 billion won earmarked for the restoration of areas adjacent to olle trails and 3 billion won to host a Jeju Environment Forum.
