Jeju is famous for its nature, but if you have already enjoyed the sound of the waves and the white sandy beaches, why don’t you try looking at Jeju through the eyes of artists?

If you search a little, you can appreciate not only artwork by artists living in Jeju but also world famous artists such as Andy Warhol and Nam June Paik.

Jeju’s old town is a particular hotbed of artistic activity and there are many wonderful art galleries in this part of town.

Let’s take a look at some of the most popular art galleries in Jeju’s old town!

Jeju Arario Museum - Tapdong Cinema, Tapdong Bike Shop, Dongmun Motel I and ¥±

The Ariario museums make up four of Jeju old town’s most popular art galleries. They are the result of an ambitious project initiated by art collector and entrepreneur Kim Chang-il who was selected as one of the ‘World’s Top 100 art collector’ by renowned art magazine 'Artnet'.

The core of this project is to take over old buildings located between Jeju Old Downtown and Jeju Sanjicheon Stream and transform them into exhibition halls. At the Art Galleries, you can enjoy contemporary artwork by Andy Warhol and other modern artists.

The Arario Museum in Jeju is divided into four different locations: Tapdong Cinema, Tapdong Bike Shop, and Dongmoon Motel I and II. There are English, Chinese and Japanese websites for the museums. All the Arario Museum's exhibition halls are closed on Mondays.

Tapdong Cinema is the main exhibition hall of the Arario Museum. As the name suggests, the building used to be a movie theater. In order to keep the history of the old building, internal maintenance was kept to a minimum. The building itself is kept as an artwork in its own right.

The first to the fourth floor of the museum is used as an exhibition hall. Approximately 3700 pieces of contemporary art are located in the gallery. This includes artwork by Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and Nam June Paik.

The fifth floor is used as a cafe and a museum shop. At the cafe, you can enjoy a drink in a room with a four-meter high ceiling and a view of Jeju’s old town and sea.
