US Senator John McCain, chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has said that the United States must ‘seriously consider’ redeploying nuclear weapons in South Korea in response to the North Korean nuclear and missile-related crisis.
Since this option was discussed as a way to to effectively suppress and respond to the North Korean nuclear threat, Korean netizens have been divided into two groups.
Some people are for the redeployment of nuclear weapons. One comment from an article on the Chosun Ilbo says “We should’ve located nuclear weapons earlier. We should regret that we missed the chance in the past.”
And another comment says “Kim Jong-un will not give up nuclear weapons. We should also prepare nuclear weapons in the same way.”
But there are still people who don’t agree with the need for nuclear weapons.
One comment on an article from Naver news said that “bringing nuclear weapons into the Korean peninsula will only make the situation worse.”
And another comment on Yonhap News said “if we agree to bring nuclear weapons into the Korean peninsula, we will lose the right to say to North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons.”
