Korea’s annual Para games started on Sept. 15 and will continue until Sept. 19 for five days in Chungbuk Province.

Hong won his first gold medal in the 800-meter track in 1:44,93 on Sept. 15 and his second gold medal came in the 400-meter race in 50.86 seconds the next day.

There is also a chance he will get a fourth gold medal in the 10-kilometer race that he will compete in on Sept. 19.

If it is the case, the wheelchair racer will create a new legacy by becoming the first person to win a total of four gold medals in two consecutive years in the Korea’ Para Games history.

He competed in the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, Greece. There he won a gold medal in the men's 100 meters T53 race, a gold medal in the men's 200 meters T53 race, a silver medal in the men's 400 meters. In the Paralympic Games in Beijing, Hong also won a gold medal in the men's 400-meter event with a world record of 47.67 seconds.

Some would say that in his sport being in your mid-30s is the prime for strength and speed. However, Hong is 43 years old and still seems to be at the pinnacle of his career as a wheelchair racer.

He is Jeju-native and sustained a spinal cord injury as a baby.
