While most of us are back at work refreshed after the benefits of a ten-day Chuseok vacation, please spare a thought for those who have been working at Jeju International Airport.
Not only have people at the airport not had a break, but they have been extra busy due to the number of tourists coming to the island (as well as those from Jeju looking to take advantage of the long break).
In fact, according to the Jeju Provincial Tourism Association, the total number of visitors to Jeju during the holiday season is estimated to have been 510,000.
This means that at on average, more than 50,000 people visited the island every, single, day. The first five days of the holiday saw 50,993 people on the Oct. 1, 50,982 on the Oct. 2, 50,521 on Oct. 3, 51,137 on Oct. 4, and 51,821 on Oct. 5.
And this is just people coming to the island. There were also a lot of people leaving the island too.
In terms of those departing from Jeju, it has been reported that 48,891 people left the island on Oct. 4, 44,879 on Oct. 5, 46,268 on Oct. 6, and 48,871 people on Oct. 7.
On Oct. 9, the last day of the holiday, the Jeju airport headquarters projected that 46,619 passengers would depart from Jeju Airport on a total of 239 planes. |
