Jeju will introduce low-speed electric vehicles for official use for the first time this year as part of efforts to promote environmentally friendly cars.

A total of 35 electric vehicles, which run at a maximum speed of 60 kilo-meters per hour, will be put to use at fire stations and parks, officials said.

It will be the first time for the city government to operate electric vehicles for official use, though such eco-friendly cars have been introduced at city-run parks and golf courses.

Officials say more charging facilities will have to be built for electric vehicles before they can be fully commercialized. Cars running on lithium-polymer batteries run an average 110 kilometers per charge. (Source-Arirang Radio)
