Jeju Olle Inc. and Switzerland Tourism Korea signed a memorandum of understanding at the Swiss Embassy on April 6 for joint development of “Travel on Foot.”

They agreed to share technology and contacts to improve the Swiss project and to actively promote it in Korea and abroad. The plan is to choose Swiss walking courses that are similar to those in Jeju and mark them with signs reading Jeju Olle. The courses in Jeju will have signs designating them as Travel on Foot courses.

Suh Myung Sook, chief executive of Jeju Olle Inc. will visit Switzerland later this year to select the courses, which will feature signs in Hangeul. “I am delighted to enter into an agreement with Switzerland, which is well-known for its eco-tourism,” Suh said.

Kim Ji In, Head of Switzerland Tourism Korea, said that, “As Switzerland becomes more acquainted with the idea of traveling on foot, we wanted to apply the concept of Jeju Olle to Switzerland.”

In March 2009, Jeju Olle pursued a similar exchange with Japan’s Shikoku Tourism Organization, which owns the Ohenro Pilgrimage. It hopes to conclude an agreement with the Japanese group soon.
