In Japan the unofficial holiday known as ‘Golden Week,’ which runs from the 29th of April until the 5th of May, has resulted, yet again, in the overbooking of airplanes destined for Jeju. This period is an extremely popular time to travel, considering that most people from Japan have it off due to the amount of holidays that fall between those dates. According to the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial, more than 6,000 Japanese tourists visited the island during that time period.

Flights between Jeju and Japan have consequently been referred to as the ‘Golden Flights,’ and their popularity has only increased, even after the 5th of this month. Also contributing to the congested airways, the demand for domestic spring field trips to the island by elementary, middle and high schools has dramatically increased as well. As such, it might be easier to swim to Jeju than trying to get an airline ticket to the Island.
