August is the high season for tourism on the island. Flights to Jeju are ramped up yet due to demand it is often a challenge to get a seat even weeks ahead of time.

The Jeju government has formed for the summer vacation season a task force at Jeju International Airport to ensure smooth operations. The task force will be on duty through Aug. 22.

The province will also ask the airline companies to provide even more flights to reduce what is estimated to be a 92 to 98 percent booking rate for Jeju-bound flights.

Other measures include the provincial government strengthening staffing while closely monitoring the status of daily flights by dispatching related civil servants to the transportation control room at the Jeju International Airport.
