After a pair of wins, Jeju United has stayed in first place in the K-League. The first of the two saw Jeju take down Gyeongnam, then the K-League’s 3-place side, in a dramatic come from behind victory on Oct. 1.

After a rough start to the game, Jeju looked poised for their first home loss of the season. Gyeong-nam jumped out to a quick lead on a goal from 20-year-old rookie Yoon Bit Garam in the 14th minute and Lucio in the 18th. Down two before 20 minutes were off the clock, things looked grim for Jeju.

The momentum, however, shifted quickly as Jeju battled back to tie the game before half time, scoring two goals in 10 minutes. Kim Eun Jung scored Jeju’s first tally on a penalty kick in the 23rd minute and Santos Junior netted the equaliser shortly thereafter in the 32nd. Kim second goal of the match in the 57th minute was enough to give Jeju the win.

Jeju’s next match against Gangwon FC on Oct. 9 was not as close. This time, it was Jeju who jumped out to an early lead, scoring three before the 30-minute mark. Kim Eun Jung put away his second penalty kick in as many games in the 5th minute, with Santos Junior and Danielo Neco scoring in the 10th and 23rd, respectively.

Jeju opened the scoring in the second half on Kim Eun Jung’s second goal of the game in the 46th minute. Kim Yong Hoo scored for Gangwon in the 90th to prevent the shutout. Kim Eun Jung’s hot streak has him tied for third in the race for the K-League’s Top Scorer Award, presented to the player who amasses the most goals over the course of the regular season.

With the wins, Jeju remains the K-League’s top squad, with a 4 -point lead over FC Seoul. Jeju has four regular season K-League matches remaining. A home match against FC on Oct. 27 promises to be competitive and will be a major factor in determining the regular season champion.
