The National Assembly passed a special bill on April 22 to award Jeju with more than 100 billion won of fiscal support for the World Conservation Congress 2012.

The bill stipulates that the Prime Minister, instead of the Minister of Environment, should chair a government support committee to expedite implementation of key environmental initiatives. The committee will review key aspects of the government’s green policies and coordinate with different agencies and ministries for administrative support. The total budget for WCC 2012 is estimated to be more than 100 billion won according to a preliminary review of the bill.

The bill also specifies that the government should continue to support the host city well after WCC so that Jeju can remain committed to green and sustainable development.
