From Feb. 2 to Feb. 4, the 15th Jeongwol Daeboreum Fire Festival will be held near Saebyeol Oreum in Jeju City.
The festival was first held in 1997 to celebrate Jeongwol Daeboreum, the first full moon of the lunar calendar.
Since its inception, Jeju City has annually altered the festival’s program to keep pace with current festival trends and attract locals and tourists alike.
This year 52 events are on tap. New this year for attendees will be the sampling of Jeju traditional dishes, playing Jeju traditional games, and several Jeju folk song performances, among others.
Fireworks and a light and laser show will decorate Jeju’s sky every evening of the festival.
In attendance will be 63 representatives from five of Jeju’s overseas sister cities (Santa Rosa, California; Guilin and Laizou, China; and Beppu and Arakawa, Japan). Invitees from the cities of Santa Rosa and Laizou will perform during the festival.
City officials have said that the parking lot near the 1135 road will not be available due to construction. In response, the city will add additional shuttle buses, which will run from Cheju Halla University (formerly Cheju Halla College), Halla Arena, Seogwipo, and Jungmun to Saebyeol Oreum, the festival site.
