Nowadays, Jeju is pushing ahead with ‘Jeju Free International City Project’ which includes seven specific plans: Jeju Healthcare Town, Jeju Science Park, Seogwipo Tourism Port, Myths & History Theme Park, Jeju Innovation City, Seongsan Marine Tourism Complex and Jeju Global Education City. Among them, Jeju Global Education City Plan, which has the purpose of replacing the demand for overseas study, is evaluated as the most advanced because currently, three international schools (NLCS Jeju, KIS Jeju, BHA) are already opened.

Branksome Hall Asia (BHA) is the third international school established in Jeju Global Education City; opening in October 2012. BHA enrolls 1,212 girls from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and most of them are from Korea, especially the mainland, but there are also students from different nations such as China, Japan, Singapore, Russia and the USA. The principal of BHA, Glen Radojkovich said “The majority of our students are from Seoul while students from Jeju take a small percentage,” and he added “We have more international students than other international school in Jeju Global Education City, about 56 students are from different countries.”

The fact that Branksome Hall in Toronto, Canada is an elite school, is already proven by university acceptances of their students. In 2013, 88 percent of their qualified university applicants were offered entrance scholarships and some students went to great universities in the USA such as Princeton University, NYU, and Carnegie Mellon University. Currently, faculty and students in BHA exchange and participate in learning partnerships with Branksome Hall in Toronto.

BHA follows the curriculum of Branksome Hall in Toronto, IB(International Baccalaureate) program which is an international certificated education curriculum for university entrances. In May, 2013, BHA was selected as IB World School and got permission to deliver IB DP(Diploma). In November, 2013, BHA is authorized to offer IB PYP(Primary Years Program) and IB MYP(Middle Years Program) will be offered next year. Since about 2,000 universities from 75 countries have priority to IB program, it seems that this will benefit students for their university entrances.

According to the principal, BHA is quite different from normal schools in the way they teach students; BHA teachers lead students to solve problems and think about topics rather than teach them with blackboards full of letters. Therefore, students organize everything when it comes to special events in school like MUN(Model United Nations).

Academics aren’t the only focus at BHA. Extracurricular activities in BHA are so unique. From the gym and dance floor to the playing fields and the Performing Arts Rooms, students express their creativity, athleticism and collegiality, and use each day as an opportunity to achieve their potential.

The principal insists that it is important to make students like their school and to feel happy, for this reason, BHA has an enormous and beautiful campus and creates lots of activities for their students to enjoy. Therefore, students in BHA are really satisfied with their school and it seems like they enjoy studying there.

Branksome Hall Asia will graduate students for the first time in 2015. With a wonderful campus, enjoyable activities and a good curriculum that makes students into creative global leaders, their graduates will make phenomenal achievements.
