While world leaders are assembling down the road at the ICC Jeju, the general public will have a chance to experience some of the ASEAN member nations’ cultures at the Jeju World Culture and Travel Expo, at the World Cup Stadium in Seogwipo.
The expo runs May 29 through June 1 and will feature exhibits of culture and tourism from nations around the world.
ASEAN member nations will be included, but there will also be displays from a wide range of countries, such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Spain, Hungary, the Czech Republic, South Africa, Tunisia, Argentina, Iran and Algeria. Nearly 40 nations will be represented at the event, with more than 250 booths.
Expo-goers can experience the foods, crafts and natural features of these countries, as well as partaking in some Jeju-centric events.
The Jeju booth will have information on the Jeju Olle hiking courses, making Jeju gal cloth and making traditional Jeju rope.
The expo is managed by Jeju Tourism Association and Korean World Travel Fair (KOFTA, Inc), which has orchestrated events like this around Korea for a decade. It is sponsored by Korea Tourism Association of Seoul, Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and National Agricultural Cooperative Federation.
The Jeju World Culture And Travel Expo takes place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 29 through June 1 at Jeju World Cup Stadium, Seogwipo. The event is free.
