From Dec. 26, the Jeju International Free City Development Center (JDC) has been operating a two-part “2011 JDC Spread the Love English Camp” for elementary school students and middle school students.
The 100 middle school students selected for the program include children from disadvantaged families who were recommended by their schools and the Jeju Provincial Education Office. Their camp runs until Jan. 4 at the NLCS (North London Collegiate School) campus in the Jeju Global Education City in Seogwipo.
The 10-day camp will offer classes by foreign teachers and cultural activities. This camp is attracting attention in that it is the first time the NLCS Jeju campus has been opened to local people. Back in September of this year when the school started, Principal Peter Daly said that he would make the school facilities available to the public during the winter vacation period as a way of giving something back to the community.
Regarding the program for elementary school students, their camp runs from Dec. 27 to Jan. 6. at the Jeju National University campus. The group of 100 fifth and sixth grade students is made up of students from disadvantaged families and those chosen by a computerized lottery.
