Jeju, the southern resort island of Korea, hosts South Korea's first ever PGA Tour event this fall.

The Jeju provincial government said it signed an agreement in April with the PGA Tour and CJ Group.

Under the theme "Bridge to Realization," CJ will host the PGA tour match as the title sponsor of the tournament named the CJ Cup@Nine Bridges.

The Club at Nine Bridges on Jeju Island, owned and run by CJ group, Korea’s 14th largest conglomerate, will be the venue for the Oct. 19-22 competition.

Under the deal, Jeju is set to provide administrative and financial support to ensure the successful staging of the $9.25 million tournament. The CJ Cup's prize money is known to be one of the largest among PGA tour events which helped to attract top-ranking golfers on the tour.

Top golfers taking part in the PGA Tour for $9.25 million in prize money include Justin Thomas, Jason Day, Marc Leishman, Paul Casey, Adam Scott, Rafa Cabrera Bella, Enrnie Els, K.J Choi, Sang Moon-bae, and Kim Si-won and many other top golers.

A boon for Jeju’s tourism industry is also high. Jeju hopes this event can be a much-needed opportunity to boost sagging overseas tourist numbers amid a drastic drop in the number of Chinese visitors.

"By hosting the PGA Tour, the ripple effects throughout the economy are as big as those of the Olympics,” said CJ Vice President Kyeong Wook-ho.

The Korea's first PGA event is expected to draw more than a billion golf fans worldwide from Oct. 19 to 22. The event will be aired on SBS Golf in Korea and on the Golf Channel elsewhere.

The field will feature 78 players, with the top 60 players coming from the FedEx Cup standings, the other spots filled by Korea PGA (KPGA) Tour players and others. There will be 47 events in the ongoing 2016-2017 season.
