In a game that both teams needed to win, a lackluster Jeju United were able to walk away with a tie against a better performing FC Seoul on a rainy afternoon at Seoul World Cup Stadium in Sangam-dong, April 21.

Santos Jr. bailed Jeju out on the last kick of the game tying it at 1.

The game opened with both teams playing well, Jeju getting 4 shots to FC Seoul’s 6 in the first half. There were a couple flashes of brilliance from United during the first 45, particularly on a fast rush down the right side where quick give-and-goes gave Jeju a good chance at net, though they were unable to capitalize upon this momentum. It was an example of Coach Park Kyung Hoon’s rattlesnake philosophy, but it was not to be seen again.

In the second half Jeju looked like they had all their energy sapped from them. They could barely get the ball down the field, and when they did they failed to apply pressure and get shots off. Seoul clearly dominated the game.

United keeper Han Dong Jin played another great game and if it wasn’t for him Jeju would have been trying to climb back from a deficit much earlier and probably much deeper.

Early in the second half Han made an impressive diving save off Seoul striker Dejan Damjanovic who got off a nice high shot. Han got a hand on it and pushed it over the net.

Seoul finally got the first goal in the 63rd minute with Kim Hyun Sung scoring a solid header just outside the penalty area off a corner kick. Han didn’t have a chance.

Jeju continued to be out played during the second half. They showed a worrying lack of quality during the final third, and couldn’t keep pressure on the home team, nor get a shot on net.

Fans began packing up and heading to the parking lot to beat traffic and get out of the rain when Jeju finally showed some life during injury time saving themselves from a loss on the final kick of the game.

On a play that started with Adrian Madaschi, who was out the last five games due to injury, Seo Dong Hyun back heeled it to Hae Jae Won who was able to bring a bouncing ball under control in the penalty area and chip it to Santos, who slid in an easy low shot to the disappointment of the home crowd.

With the tie Jeju still sit at second in the K-League with 18 points. Seoul FC is third. United are still two points behind the Suwon Bluewings who took on 14th place Gyeongnam FC today but surprisingly drew nil-nil.

Since Coach Park joined the Orange two seasons ago, his squad has yet to beat FC Seoul. Jeju United play Gyeongnam FC at home on Sunday April 29 at 5 p.m.
